Producer Price Index

      Producer Price Index May 2012
The Ministry of Commerce reported the movement of producer price index of the country in May 2012.
       The producer price index is complied from the survey and evaluation on prices of 609 items from farmer, entrepreneur and nationwide distributors, which have covered 3 sectors categories including agricultural, mining and manufacturing products. Figures are summarized as follows
       1. The Producer Price Index in May 2012 was 139.9 and 140.4 in April 2012. (PPI in 2005 = 100)
       2. The producer price index in May 2012 compared to those in
       2.1 April 2012 increased 0.4 percent.
       2.2 May 2011 increased 1.2 percent.
       2.3 Average rate of the first quarter (January - May) in 2012 compared to the same period (January - May) in 2011 increased 1.8 percent.
       3. The producer price index in May 2012 compared to the previous month (April 2012) decreased 0.4 percent due to increase in the price index of agriculture products, of industrial products and mining product which decreased 1.0, 2.6 and 0.2 percent respectively.
       3.1 The agricultural price index increased 1.0 percent from the previous month (April 2012 decreased 1.2 percent)
       Some prices of products increased such as rubber in response to lower export to China. For fruits and vegetable whose prices have decreased are pineapples, durians, rambutans, lychees, rose apple, fresh chilli, baby corns, asparagus, tomatos and lemons' price is effeced by lower quantity in market. Some prices of fish and aquatics animals products decreased such as tilapias, blackbanded kingfishs, little tunny, trevallies, mud crabs and white shrimp.
       Moreover, some prices of food decreased such as major rice, second rice, orchids, swine (live), chicken and chicken eggs due to lower quantity to market.
       3.2 The mining product price index decreased 2.6 percent from previous month (April 2012 increased 0.2 percent) mainly due to the global price in petroleum & natural gas, zine and tin.
      
       3.3 The manufactured product price index decreased 0.2 from previous month (April 2012 decreased 0.2 percent) mainly due to prices of some products as follows :
       Petroleum products : Gasoline, diesel oil, jet fuel, heavy fuel oil and kerosene due to the global price.
       Rubber and plastic products : Rubber smoke sheet and block rubber.
       Chemicals and chemical products : Plastics pill prices are effected by oil price.
       Other goods : Including plam oil, sugar, flat rolled products of iron or steel, jewelry and related articles.
       However, prices of swines, chickens increased by demand of customer. While white rice, boiled rice, small broken rice, chip, pellet and beers increased .
      
       4. Producer Price Index in May 2012 compared to May 2011 increased 1.2 percent due to higher price of products from agricultural sector by 3.1 percent. In addition, mining products rose 1.5 percent and prices of manufactured products increased 0.8 percent.
       5. Average 4 months of Producer Price Index (January - May 2012) compared to the same period of 2011 rose by 1.8 percent. The index of agricultural products rose 2.4 percent. While products from mining and industrial sector increased 4.4 percent and 1.6 percent.
