Producer Price Index

  January  2012

 
      The Ministry of Commerce reported the movements of producer price index of the country in January 2012.
The producer price index is complied from the survey and evaluation on prices of farmer, entrepreneur and nationwide distributors on 609 items, which have covered 3 categories including agricultural, mining and manufacturing products. By comparing the calculated change in the index to measure changes in product prices, figures are summarized as follows
       1. The Producer Price Index in January 2012 was 138.8 and 138.0 in December 2011. (PPI in 2005 = 100)
       2. The producer price index in January 2012 compared to those in
       2.1 December 2011 increased 0.6 percent.
       2.2 January 2011 increased 3.6 percent.
       3. The producer price index in January 2012 compared to the previous month (December 2011) increased 0.6 percent due to increase in the price index of agricultural products, of products from mining, and of industrial products which increased 1.2 percent, 3.5 and 0.4 respectively.
       3.1 The agricultural price index increased 1.2 percent (December 2011 decreased 0.6 percent ) mainly due to rubber i.e. latex rubber, raw rubber, and rubber ramnant. A shortage of supply in southern, northeastern, and east areas as well as government stimulation plan account for this increase in prices. Moreover oil plam and fruits price also declined such as banana, pineapple, pommels, guavas, rose apple . However, price of vegetables such as onions, cucumbers, cabbages, chineses kales, luttece, chineses cabbages, shallot plants, and corianders decreased in response to higher quantity of a seasonal product to market.
       3.2 The mining product price index increased 3.5 percent (December 2011 decreased 0.8 percent) mainly due to a increase in crude oil, natural gas, lead, and tin was dropped in response to the global price.
       3.3 The manufactured product price increased 0.4 percent (December 2011 decreased 0.2 percent). mainly due to an increase in the price of petroleum such as gasoline, diesel oil, heavy fuel oil, kerosene. Additionally, prices of rubber sheet, block rubber, sythetic fibres, silk yarn, and cotton yarn rose corresponding to higher production cost. However, some prices of food products dropped such as swines, chickens, white rice, glutinous rice, boiled rice, chip, pellet, portland cement, roll coils, bar and rod have a lower price.
       4. Producer Price Index in January 2012 compared to January 2011 increased 3.6 percent due to higher price of products from agricultural by 2.8 percent : comprised of an increase of the price of crops, livestock, forest products, and fish and aquatics animals products by 2.5 percent, 2.5, 11.6 and 4.9 respectively. In addition mining product rose 9.0 percent from increasing prices of petroleum products and natural gas by 11.6 percent, while manufactured product rose 3.6 percent due to rising in prices of beverages and tobacco 3.3 percent, petroleum products 17.6 percent, wood and wood products 2.6 percent, textiles and textiles products 2.5 percent, basic metals and fabricated metal products 4.5 percent, transport equipment 1.2 percent, and other manufactured goods 13.2 percent.
